Computer Repair and Maintenance

If you are an owner of a computer, you most likely have run into some computer problems. It could have been a virus infection or the highly dreaded computer crash; hopefully it was not the later. This goes to show that computers like any other machine have some limitations that require a little human TLC from time to time to keep them running well. No matter how new a computer may be, it starts to slow down as more and more things are added to the hard drive and the start menu. As a result, it is highly recommended to do some computer maintenance every 6 months or so, depending on how often programs are installed and removed from the system.

Computer maintenance is more of a preventative measure that can keep bigger problems at bay and allow early detection of bigger problems like a hard drive going bad. Computer maintenance involves things like removing old and unused programs, cleaning up the Registry, running the disk defragmenter, checking up on hardware functionality etc. A hard drive that has fragmented (scattered) files works harder to retrieve information. That means there will be a lot more friction going on, which could affect the life expectancy of the hard drive. So the main reason for doing computer maintenance is to catch these small issues before they cause bigger problems. Computer maintenance work is like doing a regular oil change on a car; it helps to keep the “engine” running smooth longer.

Going longer without computer maintenance can result in more serious computer problems that sometimes require expensive repairs. I had one client whose computer had been going slow for a while (as he told it). He was dependent on his computer for work and was reluctant to have his computer checked. By the time he brought in his computer, the hard drive was gone and he had no backups. Data recovery at that point was going to be over $500 because of the special equipment required. These days you could buy a brand new computer with that kind of money. Regular computer maintenance would have caught this and saved him some money and most importantly, his valuable information.

Computer repairs often get expensive when a computer is not well maintained. So, I highly recommend doing some maintenance work on your computer on a regular basis, or getting a computer expert in your local area to do it for you. It will save you a lot of time, money and frustration in the long run. If your computer is acting funny and you can’t put a finger on it, I highly recommend that you take it to a reliable computer repair specialist with reasonable prices. It could make the difference between saving and losing valuable personal information.
